So call me a softie, but I actually shed a little tear when I watched this....fond memories of Saturday night dances in the mid to late 60's might have had something to do with it, either that or the half bottle of chewy bank holiday red I've downed!

Hi, I loved the old Plaza. I used to roller skate there way back in 1955 when I was 15 years of age. There was also an out door roller rink at the back of the Plaza which often got covered in sand.

hi there yes i remember the old plaza it was a beautiful place were people newst to roller skate and have fun i loved it while i was there i met famous peopple

my family owned it in the 19.60`s and before. i was a little boy then. but my Father was known as Jinxy Bridger. He passed away when i was young so dont no much. any one got any information.

I remember your parents well. Friends of my parents and partied the night away. They were great fun....even for me when I was in my teens. What a laugh they all were.. Kathy.
The plaza was my playground as a child, starting with the amusements, then the roller rink, then onto Maxwell's disco, then to Surfers nightclub. As all old buildings back in the day were riddled with asbestos, the plaza was no exception. The fire that took are friend were many of the people of the North East were brought together and produced the younger generation who now read this post, this involves you now. After the fire North Tyneside Council buried all of the asbestos from the plaza under the beach, to simply save money. This asbestos had been in a fire and was already in a dangerous state when buried. Comment from NTC says its safe, I don't. This is not the ramblings of a fool.
