Experiment

Soarport offers a free place to host large images (max 10mb) which can be embedded on a website rather like a google map.....apparently you can zoom and pan. This one's a mere 1.5mb to try it out.

Hey....it works, I'm impressed!!

NB...I had difficulties registering, so this one's an anonymous upload (and you need to register to manage your uploads and find them easily, if you're not registered you have to remember the tags you assigned when you uploaded....and my memory being what it is....!)

Test post from the new iGoogle blog posting thingie

It doesn't do pretty pictures, but it might be handy for those occasions where you want to do just a quick text post.....like "Sorry for the lack of recent action....I promise I'll try harder!"

(local) Walkies....

....but really just testing acrobat.com. I signed up as a beta user ages ago but never actually tried it out. To be honest, I'm impressed, especially by the 5gb of online storage it offers for free. The experimental piece is the 'complete walking guide of Newcastle'.....first thing that came to hand!

Trying out Windows Live Writer

I'm trying out Windows Live Writer again to see whether there's been any improvements. Also to find out whether the plugins work with Blogger or only Windows products. On the left is an alternative way of displaying captioned pictures.....unfortunately there's no way of changing the colour of the background or the drop shadow....but hey, it costs nothing!

Map image

Then there's the option to add a map or an aerial photo with added notes (click on the image to find out the latest status of pantomime tickets!)

Expect some strange test postings......

....but I promise I'll try to make them tasteful! "But for why" I hear you ask...well, it looks as if I might be doing the Berlin fieldtrip again this year. My mission this time (alarmingly there was no mention of whether I wanted to accept it or not, the cassette player just blew up in my face) will be to get the students to produce 'attractive and informative' group websites including pictures, video and audio while only using free software/host sites etc (keep in mind this will be on the last day of a footslogging weeks visit.....we covered effing miles last year!) in some friendly, local unversity computer lab where all the software menus are presumably in german which by the way I don't speak....tell you what, that's no mean task when the boys and girls would really rather be out shopping and drinking (come to think of it, I'D rather be out shopping and drinking, so I need to keep it simple!) This is by way of some preliminary research in case they want to put up some dirty jokes or undercover late-night recordings of salacious gossip in the hotel bar.

The following is neither a dirty joke nor salacious gossip, it's some wistful oriental music.....I hope!
You may need to click twice on the play button....I always have to

We've got more bells and whistles.....

....than a Paraguayan marching band. I've added another gizmo to the right hand side. It's a means of sharing files, documents, music, pictures, excel spreadsheets....you name it! For starters (pun intended) I've put a pdf of a load of Middle Eastern recipes on there. Just click on the file to download, save, print......and cook!
