High resolution scans of this wonderful (literally) Winsor McCay comic strip from the early years of the 20th Century....there's no less than 376 of them at The Comic Strip Library
And here's a repost of McCay's 1911 (1911!!) animation of some of the characters. If I remember correctly, the individual frames were hand painted on rice paper.
In short, an eclectic mix of frivolous links that might be vaguely interesting to what was an original family audience....but. hey, anyone else is welcome to join in, we're not proud! EDIT Now with vitamins and added lanolin (in the form of home-grown, freshly harvested photos!)
